A member of the local vigilante group in Esan land, Edo state, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in the locality.
Standard Gazette crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered that Bernard Aririkho, also known as “Atanakapa”, was killed along Okhuessan-Emu Road in the Esan South East local government area Edo state.
Standard Gazette gathered that the suspect had joined other members of the vigilante on Tuesday, where they positioned in strategic areas and flashpoints on the trunk C road to prevent suspected kidnappers and armed robbers from attacking the people using the road.
It was gathered that while the vigilante members were keeping guard in the area, some heavily armed men came out of the bush and opened fire. A stray bullet hit Bernard on the spot.
He died before he could get to Irrua Teaching Hospital.
The officers arrived at the scene and took the body to the nearest mortuary.
Members of the Atanakpa vigilante group in ESAN LAND have all mobilised fully to the area to forestall the CRIMINAL activities of some unknown gunmen terrorising the area.
The deceased, from Ikiala, Okhuessan in Esan South local government area of Edo state, recently joined the local vigilante group in the area.
